Hello all!!! I have some Lahaina - Maui updates from our 12Tides' partner, Seatrees!
Seatrees is focusing on long-term solutions now for rebuilding Lahaina! This is a big switch from the emergency short-term solutions needed to ensure the safety of Lahaina's citizens (i.e. clothing donations, water/food/shelter supplies, volunteers,etc+). Another big focus from Seatrees that I want to dive in further with is helping locals KEEP THEIR LAND! I've seen so many videos through Instagram, made by locals (a few who even attended meetings of their Hawaii state officials) saying that this situation has led to land grab attempts. WHICH IS NOT COOL! :(
Unfortunately, in these meetings, there has been talk about reducing fees, permits, etc+ for others outside of Hawaii to swiftly pickup "cheap" land for foreigners to build vacation homes, air bnbs, etc+ [Source 1 https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwHB9I6Kc87/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
